Nokia Lumia – Upgrading to Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update

So, as you may know, Microsoft reduced for just a few devices, 13 to be more exact, that can upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update.
A lot of our beloved Nokia Lumia were out of the equation, and that was exactly what happened with my good old Nokia Lumia 925.

After a lot of try and miss and some bit of frustration I’ve decided to take the risk and try to update my Windows Phone.
The process is not that complicated but it takes some time.

The final result? Well, If your completely frustrated with your Windows Phone experience, because of crashes, slow performance, etc. Please, upgrade! The difference is huge! Ok, there’s still the lack of some apps but my phone just got a new life.

So, please follow one of the following tutorials:

Windows Phone: Windows 10 Preview Will Have a Rollback Tool

Windows 10 for Phone preview release may be available soon for some users through Microsoft Windows Insider program.

If in a computer, testing preview software it's an easy going thing, doing it on your personal smartphone it's a different approach.

Thinking on this, Microsoft will have a rollback tool, so users can get back to their Windows Phone 8.

This confirmation was revealed to the world with a tweet from one the Microsoft's General Manager, Grabriel Aul.

Windows Phone - Getting a little taste of Cortana

Well...if you're like me and live outside U.S. and don't want to mess with your region or locale on your Windows Phone, well...I think we have a lot of time to wait for...

But...If you want to have a taste of Cortana's feature and like Cortana's voice, redditor clang-ley have created and made available on it's OneDrive a bunch of MP3 files with Cortana's voice that you can use to customize your ringtone and notifications.

It's not Cortana but you'll have a little taste of it:

Windows Phone Lumias Gets Static IP Feature

It seems the lastest firmware update for Lumia phones got a nice feature.
It's now possible to define a static ip address, subnet and gateway. It's not used massively nowadays but in some environments may be needed.

For what I know at leat Lumia 625, 925 and 525 are receiving this update.

One Windows to Rule Them All!

This is not new but now it's more or less official.
Like other players in the operating systems market, Microsoft is converging all their operating systems on a single "NT core" platform.

During a conference of Microsoft's third quarter results report, Satya confrmed that Microsoft will converge Windows Phone, Windows and Windows RT in a single operating system platform when launching Windows 9.
Like Apple for example, the main objective is to have a single base code for the OS, similar aspect, a unique app store and cloud services for all devices (PCs, smartphones, tablets and consoles).
This also means that should be only one single team to develop Windows.

I believe this will finally be a "next step move" to make Microsoft reach it's competitors.

Windows Phone 8.1 - Available for Nokia Lumia

 

The new and hyped Windows Phone 8.1 it's now available for all Nokia Lumia, that where previously shipped with Windows Phone 8.

 

With a lot of new functionalities, the Nokia version of this new phone OS, called Lumia Cyan hads some new cool features like:

• Nokia Creative Studio - Brings 5 new image filters
• Nokia SensorCore - Allows the usage of sensors on Nokia Lumia devices for fitness apps without making the battery drain out rapidly
• New Camera Roll - Gives access to images gallery, editing tools and share options

In all other smartphones (including Lumia) there are also a lot of new features like:

• Action Center
• Apps + Store
• Redesigned Calendar
• Internet Explorer 11
• YouTube Player, including HTML5 Support
• Encripted and signed e-mail support
• New Start Screen
• Files (to manage smartphone files)
• Swipe keyboard
• Battery Power Sense (for monitoring which apps users most battery)
• Wi-Fi Direct
• Miracast, PlayTo, mirror and project via wireless display or USB-Out
• Virtual Smartcard support
• Mouse and Keyboard support

And a lot, lot more...like the new personal assistant Cortana in some few countries.

Well, while WoL it's not a new thing, using it with the new Windows Phone 8.1 personal assistant it's a different story.
