Protogon – A New FileSystem for Windows 8 or a “WinFS” Like?

Neowin found this new file system type on an early build of Windows 8.

protogon

Like you can see on the screenshot above taken by a member of the Neowin website, it appears Microsoft it’s again trying to implement a new file system to substitute the good old NTFS.At this time, that’s no information available about this. Just that command prompt not yet supports this feature.

Until Microsoft decides to talk about Protogon, we can just speculate about it, so…my guesses:
.: A new partition specially created for Microsoft BitLocker related stuff
.: A new partition just to be used as a “database” for all cached content (like photos, videos, etc)

Let’s wait and see.
